No Holds with God

Happy Monday to our CFC Family,

Earlier today, I spent over an hour and a half on the phone with a service provider, trying to get some questions answered. I’ve got to tell you, after being passed from person to person and department to department, it was getting a bit frustrating and irritating to say the least!  Yet, alI I could hear in my head was my own words from yesterdays sermon, reminding me how we need to be “patient and kind” to those around us. Yes, I’d be the first to agree that it’s a whole lot easier to preach it on Sunday than to live it on Monday!! 😉

In the end, I was finally able to get someone who could help me out, and my questions were successfully answered. On top of all that, I am proud to say that my demeanor throughout the whole call was relatively cordial and kind the whole time!

While on hold, I started thinking about how thankful we can be that we are never “put on hold” with God. That when we pray, there’s no waiting for him to hear us, no frustrating hold music, and no endless transfers between departments. God is always there, always present to listen, and always ready to provide the right answer!

In Hebrews 4:16, we are reminded: “Let us then approach God's throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”

Also, in Jeremiah 33:3, God promises: “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” When we reach out to God in prayer, we can have confidence that He is listening and that He will always answer us in His perfect timing.

In 1 John 5:14, we are reassured: “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.”

We are never disconnected, never left hanging, and we can trust that God is always on the other end, waiting to hear our prayers. However, even though God promises to hear us, His answers may not always align with what we expect or desire. As humans, we often want immediate fixes, clear solutions, or exactly what we think is best. But God, in His infinite wisdom, knows what is ultimately best for us—even when we can’t fully understand it.

In Isaiah 55:8-9, God tells us: “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways... As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

God sees the bigger picture, and even when we don’t get the answer we hoped for, we can trust that He knows what is best. So while we may have to wait on the phone with a company, we can know that we never have to wait on God to hear us.  He is always there, always ready to listen. But I guess the big question is…..are we?

Question: What do you think the real reason is when we feel we are “on hold” with God in our prayers?

Have a great week and we’ll see you Sunday!
