Christmas Miracle at Walmart

Happy Monday to our CFC Family!
Well, here we are just a few days past Christmas and entering the final week of the year, and I want to begin by wishing everyone a joyful remainder of the Christmas season and a blessed, healthy, and successful year ahead.
I trust that this past week was a meaningful time spent with family and friends. A time not only of celebration, but also of reflection on God’s incredible gift to us: the incarnation of Jesus Christ.
You know, when I think about the Christmas story, one of the most beautiful aspects is that God did not overlook the small or ordinary things when He sent His Son into the world, but in fact shone his light on them. And because of this, we can see how the innocence and simplicity surrounding Jesus’ arrival reveal so much about the very heart of God.
God chose Mary and Joseph—young, ordinary, and impoverished, to be the earthly parents of our Savior. He chose a humble manger, not a palace, as the place of Jesus’ birth. He chose simple, often overlooked shepherds to first hear the angelic announcement. And He chose a quiet, yet unmistakable star to guide the wise men from the East to the Christ child.
Throughout Scripture, God has revealed Himself in both powerful and simple ways. There were moments like Mount Sinai, where His power and authority were displayed with thunder, fire, and trembling ground. Yet there were also quieter moments—gentle whispers and ordinary encounters—that remind us God often works through humility and simplicity.
That truth was made very real to me this Christmas season.
As many of you know, earlier this month Lenise was in the hospital for a small, unexpected surgery. During her stay, a pair of new boots she had purchased just a few weeks earlier went missing. We followed the proper procedures to locate them, but despite our efforts, they were gone.
Because Lenise loved those boots so much, I decided to try to replace them as a Christmas gift. I went back to Walmart where we had originally purchased them. When I arrived at the shoe section, I saw that they still carried the same style….but not in her size. I searched through the entire boot section, hoping I had simply overlooked them, but there was nothing.
I noticed a store employee nearby straightening shelves and asked if there might be any more sizes in the back. She told me no, and in fact explained that what was on the floor was all they had left for the winter season. Disappointed, I continued looking anyway, checking once more just in case.
It was in that moment that I quietly prayed, “Lord, I would really love to give Lenise another pair of these boots for Christmas. If there is a pair in her size, please bring it to me.”
After standing there for a while, I felt ready to give up. There simply wasn’t any in her size. And yet, I sensed a gentle nudge in my spirit that said, ‘just wait a little longer.’
As I stood there wondering what exactly I was waiting for, that same employee suddenly walked up beside me and placed a pair of boots on the shelf—the exact style and the exact size I had been praying for. She had no idea what I was looking for, and I hadn’t mentioned the size or style to her earlier.
Totally shocked by what I was witnessing, I asked her where she found them, and she casually replied, “Oh, someone had put them in a different aisle.”
I told her, “I was just praying for that exact pair, and you brought them right to me. You’re an answer to my prayer.” She smiled and politely thanked me for the unusual compliment, unaware of just how much that moment meant to me.
In that moment, that simple act felt just as powerful to me as if an angel had physically shown up and placed those boots in my hands. And who knows—perhaps, in a way, an angel actually did!
At that moment, God didn’t need thunder or fire to show His presence to me; He simply used a willing person at the right time!
It reminded me of what Jesus taught—that our Father knows what we need even before we ask, and that not even the smallest details of our lives escape His care (Matthew 6:32–33; Luke 12:6–7).
Just like in the Christmas story, God showed up in a small and simple way! Not with fanfare, not with lightning and thunder, but with perfect timing and quiet provision! And to me, it was a reminder that God cares, not only about the big things in our lives, but even about the smallest needs of our hearts!
Question: Looking back on 2025, can you think of a time when God provided a miracle in a small, quiet, yet powerful way?
Have a great week and we’ll see you Sunday in 2026!
