Bill C-9, A Christian's Response

Happy Monday to our CFC family

This week's email is going to be a little longer than normal, but it’s important that we discuss what is happening in our nation. Our Federal Government, despite petitions, committee debates, and public concern, has passed Bill C-9.

This bill has sparked intense controversy because it gives authorities the power to define what counts as hate speech in Canada.

While we all agree that hateful speech is wrong, the real challenge lies in who gets to define what is considered "hate." In December 2025, during a debate on this bill, Liberal Member of Parliament Marc Miller who was in support of bill C9, was asked whether certain religious scriptures could be classified as hate speech. He responded that some passages might indeed fall under this definition, meaning even traditional religious teachings could potentially be targeted.

Persecution has always been part of the church’s history, but until recent decades it was largely confined to countries like China, North Korea, and the former Soviet Union. Today, we are seeing censorship and pressure in nations we once considered firmly democratic, including Canada. Just last week in Finland, MP Dr. Päivi Räsänen was charged under their hate speech law for writings she published twenty years ago defending traditional marriage and sexuality.

In England, people have been fined for what they post online.

In Canada, the British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal ordered former Chilliwack school trustee Barry Neufeld to pay $750,000 to LGBTQ teachers after finding that dozens of his public statements opposing sexual orientation and gender identity violated their rights.

These developments are not isolated. They are part of a broader globalist agenda, which deliberately attacks the foundations of Family, Faith, and Freedom through several strategies:

1. They seek to keep you depressed, weakening your spirit and clouding your judgment.

2. They try to bind you to sin, promoting the idea that there is no hope or possibility for change.

3. They encourage choosing safety over freedom and accomplishments, so fear and comfort prevent meaningful action.

4. They work to keep you broke, making you dependent on external sources for survival.

5. They push for physical and emotional unhealthiness and reliance on drugs, weakening body and mind.

6. They want you to look to government for the answer, discouraging personal and community responsibility.

7. They aim to fracture your family, breaking bonds and eroding the passing on of values.

8. They stoke anger and division among you, creating conflict along race, religion, and social class to prevent unity.

When we step back and observe what is happening, the pattern becomes very clear. And yet the question remains: what can “Little ol me” do to oppose this darkness? I mean, these are global leaders with incredible influence and wealth! How can I make a difference in this world?

Well, there is much we can do, if we would all do it together! In fact, these are the things that the church MUST DO to stand firm in such perilous times:

1. Be filled with hope and trust in the Lord, strengthening your spirit through prayer and Scripture.

2. Pursue righteousness and repentance, living with moral integrity and embracing God’s forgiveness and transformation (1 John 1:9).

3. Choose courage, freedom, and purposeful action, stepping out in faith to fulfill God’s calling (Joshua 1:9).

4. Be good stewards of resources, practicing generosity, diligence, and supporting your community (Proverbs 3:9-10).

5. Maintain physical and spiritual health, caring for your body as God’s temple and cultivating emotional wellness (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).

6. Rely on God first, not governments, seeking divine guidance and building strong faith communities (Proverbs 3:5-6).

7. Strengthen family and pass on godly values, teaching children and nurturing family bonds with love and faith (Deut. 6:6-7).

8. Promote unity, love, and reconciliation, loving your neighbor and seeking peace across all divisions (Ephesians 4:3).

Can you imagine if every born-again believer began to do their part? There would be nothing the globalists could do to stop His church!

Yet despite what we can do as believers, there is still a lot of encouraging news out there! Resistance is growing. In countries like the United States, El Salvador, Argentina, Japan, and soon even Iran, the globalist agenda is beginning to reveal its weaknesses. Powerful people and leaders are pushing back, exposing corruption within organizations such as the World Economic Forum, the World Health Organization, the United Nations, and NATO.

Their agenda is crumbling, and they are terrified!

Psalm 33:10-12 reminds us that;

"The LORD brings the plans of the nations to nothing; he frustrates the purposes of the peoples. But the plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations. Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he chose for his inheritance."

As we approach this Resurrection weekend, may it remind us of the hope we have in Christ. The resurrection of Jesus is the ultimate proof that darkness does not have the final word, that life triumphs over death, and that God’s kingdom is secure. This weekend, let it renew our faith, strengthen our resolve, and encourage us to live boldly for Him, knowing that our eternal hope is anchored in Christ.

Philippians 2:9-11 remind us that:

“Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,in heaven and on earth and under the earth,

and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,to the glory of God the Father.”

This is the living hope we have in Him, giving us courage and assurance for every challenge we face.

Even though challenges are real and times are uncertain, the church can be a place of hope, guidance, and resilience. Stay strong in faith, support your families, and protect the freedoms God has given us. By doing so, we navigate these times with confidence, shining as a light to the world, trusting that God’s justice and sovereignty will ultimately prevail.

Questions: In confusing times like these, what can you do to encourage people who continue to live in fear because of what they see around them?

Have a great week and we’ll see you Sunday!
