Christmas Snow
by Kimberly Dawn Rempel

Untouched snow
crunches beneath our boots
as we lead our trail of prints.
The sharp winter air
fills with reaching fingers
of red, white and green
tangled together
from every roof top.

Every window on this street
Frames a tall evergreen,
and carolers cluster
at front doors
singing “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen”.

We build snowmen
for the first time
every year,
and walk mitt-in-mitt.

When we stand
in the bitter cold,
gazing at white sequins
on the black cloak of night,
we are surrounded by songs
of crunching and carolers,
and we are together.
